A timepiece is more than just something that tells the time. Not only is it a symbol of classical engineering, with a rich and interesting history, but there are also personal stories associated with them, making sentimental value outweigh financial ones. Your timepiece will continue to run for generations as long as it is properly cared for. The following tips will help to ensure that your timepiece will perform for many years to come.

Clean your timepiece with a soft cloth

Luxury timepieces should be gently cleaned on a regular basis. Wipe your timepiece regularly with a soft cloth, perhaps a dampened cloth if your timepiece is water resistant to get rid of dirt and stains.

Please Note- Never use facial or hand tissue to clean your timepiece as it may lead to scratches on it

Keep your timepiece wound

If you own a mechanical timepiece in your collection that is not used on a regular basis, make sure to wind it every day, or else, the gears and mechanical parts will stiffen up and may stop the timepiece from functioning properly.

Keeping away from magnets

Magnetic fields, such as those produced by TV sets, mobile phones, radios and magnets can negatively impact a timepiece’s movement thereby preventing it from functioning accurately.

Know your timepiece’s water resistance

Ensure that you adhere to the water resistance guidelines for your timepiece, whether it is 50m or 100m. If your timepiece has a leather strap, you should avoid getting your timepiece wet because water can weaken the leather strap.

Avoid contact with chemicals

Cleaning supplies, oil, cologne and perfume can damage the leather straps, weakening them and potentially causing it to tear. Similarly, for timepieces on a metal strap, it is essential to avoid chemicals as they can cause the metal to rust.

Ensure proper storage

You should always keep your timepiece safe whilst not wearing it. The best option for storage is to place your timepiece in the box that it came in as it will provide the required protection for the timepiece.

Read your timepiece manual

Each timepiece comes with specific recommendations from the manufacturer that will apply to the care of every luxury timepiece and these tips will be listed in the timepiece manual.

These are simple steps that you can take to keep your luxury timepiece in the mint condition.
