Montblanc Minerva

Established in 1906 in Germany, Montblanc is renowned for its luxury writing instruments and leather goods. After decades of embossing their famous white star emblem on exquisite fountain pens including the flagship Meisterstück, Montblanc’s watchmaking journey began.

Montblanc Montre S.A. was established in Le Locle - the heart of the Swiss watch industry, to craft high-end timepieces, officially marking the beginning of the brand’s watchmaking legacy. Montblanc strategically planned this to highlight to its customers the brand’s commitment to maintaining high-quality and master craftsmanship. The Meisterstück watch line was unveiled for the very first time at Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH), the leading watch fair in Geneva, where the brand attracted great attention and recognition among top participants.

For a relative newcomer like Montblanc, building itself a future in haute horlogerie has meant first, building itself a past. The biggest step towards making this reality came in 2006 when Richemont acquired Minerva, formerly an independent watchmaker in Villeret, Switzerland. Founded in 1858 by two brothers, Minerva was known for developing and using its very own calibres giving it legitimacy to be recognised as a manufacture. Montblanc was tagged to absorb and explore Minerva’s incredible heritage, finding inspiration in historical functions, mechanics and design codes and perpetuating the tradition of a manufacture famed for its exceptional handmade movements.

Intent on preserving the history and skills of Minerva, Montblanc founded Institut Minerva de Recherche en Haute Horlogerie in 2007 to develop movements for its Villeret collection, keeping one of precision chronometry’s finest names alive.

The two Manufactures at Montblanc, Le Locle and Villeret, are dedicated to seamlessly create finest timepieces and the most innovative calibres. The manufacture in Villeret focuses on haute horlogerie with the development, prototyping and assembly of all in-house movements from innovative and groundbreaking high-complications to small highly functional complications. While at the manufacture Le Locle, traditional watchmaking merges with the latest technology.
